A member asked:

Does prilosec cause austiopenia or austioporasis? what is the prevention for that condition if i am on prilosec?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

WITH LONG TERM USE: Long term use (5-7 yrs) of Prilosec and other proton pump inhibitors has been shown to be related to osteoporosis/osteopenia, with associated fractures. You can take a calcium citrate supplement, but i'd discuss these concerns with your prescribing doctor. Good luck.
