Optimizing Recovery: Tonsilitis can take up to 7 to 10 days before symptoms resolve. Plenty of rest/sleep, hydration, nutrition and stress reduction can help speed the process allowing your body's immune system ample opportunity to heal itself. Warm salt water gargles help reduce swelling and hot green or white tea with lemon & honey can help sooth the throat and along with tylenol (acetaminophen) if one is not allergic.

Topically: After all surgeries the body responds with inflammation and pain often worsens several days after surgery. For the throat, cooling with ices or ice cream helps. Keeping the throat clean using saline gargles and brushing your teeth is a good idea. Making sure the throat is moist by drinking liquids and using a humidifier helps. A medicine called sucrafate may coat the raw areas and reduce pain.

Rest and meds: Tonsillitis can be miserable. Appropriate treatment includes antibiotics and, sometimes, oral anti-inflammatory steroids (e.g. Prednisone). Pain medication is of course important- advil or tylenol (acetaminophen) for a mild episode, prescription pain meds for severe ones. To actually speed resolution of an episode, be sure to hydrate well and get extra sleep- typically at least eight hours per night.

Tonsillitis Recovery: Drink fluids, suck on ice chips, take pain medication regularly. It should take five - sevens days to get over. If symptoms worsen, see your doctor.

Quick Tonsillitis: Gargling with warm salt water frequently, alternating tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin will lessen symptoms and lower the fever. If you have a headache, a fever, sore throat and swollen lymph glands, please go see your doctor for antibiotics. Strep throat can cause all of these symptoms and should be treated with antibiotics. Most episodes of sore throat are viral or irritative in nature, an don't require abs.
