Very complex topic: Several parts of the brain are implicated in memory function. The hippocampus (located in the left and right temporal lobes) is involved in long term memory. The amygda is involved in formation of emotional memories. The cerebellum & precentral motor cotex are involved in motor memories. The cortex in cooperation with other brain centers is involved in conceptual memory formation.
