Significant: Hydronephrosis is back pressure on the emptying of the kidney. This can lead to permanent kidney damage if not relieved. It is important to see the urologist and have them correct the issue resulting in the hydronephrosis.

Hydronephrosis: Hydronephrosis can be either acute or chronic. chronic hydronephrosis can be either congenital or acquired. Partial obstruction of the ureter can be from a stricture, a stone or from extrinsic compression of the ureter from a mass. Dilation of the renal collecting system can also be caused from reflux of urine from the bladder back into the kidney. The urologist will be able to sort this out with a variety of different studies.
