Melanoma is : Fearsome because it can travel distantly causing few symptoms even after many years. The blood rarely provides many clues. The brain and bones are common recepticlesof metastatic disease, but it can go to many organs without showing up on blood tests of any kind.

Yes: Patients with stage 4 melanoma may have an elevated lactate dehydrogenase, but many will not. Blood work can be completely normal with metastatic melanoma.
