In most cases: A melanoma can present with almost any appearance. A nodular melanoma is firm and raised usually and will not go away on its own whereas a blood blister is soft and fluid containing usually and will go away on its own. If there is any question see a dermatologist.

Fluid: A blood blister usually has more of a fluid component, especially soon after the trauma. A blood blister should gradually resolve within a month, but a melanoma will persist or grow bigger in that time span. The most definitive method for differentiation is a biopsy or a sample of the area for review under the microscope by a pathologist.
