I had a urine culture and it indicated klebsiella pneumoniae is present, what is the correct antiobotics i should be on? i was prescibed marcobid before the results? and is this contiagous to others?

See below: Bacteria in the urine does not warrent treatment unless you have symptoms of a uti. If you have burning on urination, urinary urgency or frequency or fever you would warrant treatment. Macrobid is a urinary antiseptic. It has a lot of potentially serious side effects and i avoid using it. It does not treat tissue invasive infection. Keflex is usually good for kleb. Kleb is not contageous.

UTI antibiotics: You should call the physician who ordered the urine culture and prescribed the antibiotics. The culture results will identify the correct antibiotic you should be on. If your symptoms of a UTI are clearing on therapy, Macrobid is probably working. Please call your physician to make sure.
