Either one: Do you have it in the other hand, or feet? A family history of dm? Then maybe dm. Do you perform repetitve movements with your wrist? Or recently have a trauma to your wrist? Do you wake up at night to shake your hand because of pins and needles? Then, maybe carpal tunnel syndrome with median nerve entrapement (pinched nerve) at your wrist.

Neuropathy: Could be both, needs to be checked out. Work up will include labs, clinical exam, emg/ ncv.

Likely nerve compres: Since your symptom is one-side and in hand, it is more likely carpal tunnel or ulnar neuropathy (compressed nerve in wrist or at elbow). Diabetes can cause tingling in hands as well, but often starts in feet first and usually symmetrically-- both sides (stocking-glove pattern). This is relatively easy to sort out by a thorough history and clinical exam by your doc. So, consult doc. Good luck.

Many possibilities: Symptoms of neuropathy can range anywhere from numbness, tingling, or burning sensation, to an uncomfortable painful sensation of the extremities. For some, these symptoms are mild, while for others, they can be severe and disabling. Neuropathy can develop as a result of a pinched nerve, trauma, drug side effect, and some diseases such as diabetes. Get evaluated and professionally treated.
