As ortho-cyclen is a contraceptive hormone pill that aims to regulate hormones, it does improve acne in some patients. However, this can go the other way as well - and some people find their acne gets worse. Hormone therapy is not a first-line treatment for acne.

In some cases: Oral contraceptive pills (ocp) like ortho-cyclen can be helpful to treat acne in women of childbearing age. Ocp work by suppressing testosterone production by the ovaries. In many women with acne, testosterone produced by the ovaries stimulates the sebaceous (oil) glands to produce excess sebum which leads to blockage of the pores.
