Back is Best: Scoliosis should have no effect on sleep position, nor should sleep position significantly change the outcome of scoliosis. Unless your baby has post-surgical wounds to the back and you have been specifically told differently, infants should sleep on their backs as often as possible to reduce the risk of sids.

Hard to say: It is accepted by most in the health care field that babies should definitely sleep on their back because it is felt to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Long ago, i was taught that babies that slept on their backs had a higher incidence of scoliosis as infants than those that sleep on their stomachs, but it is not really believed anymore. Thank you for the question.
