Elevation: Sometimes the optic nerve attached to the eye is slightly more forward than usual. Many times, swelling of the optic nerve, causes an appearance, of the nerve being protuberant! see an ophthalmologist for definitive evaluation.

Usually normal: This is of concern if you have neurological symptoms, usually headaches. The raised optic nerve can signify elevation intracranial pressure. Also, it can be a normal variant. Most commonly in hyperopia.
