You Must See a DDS: If you truly have a tooth infection (diagnosed by a dentist), and if antibiotics are really not helping at all, you must see a dentist or oral surgeon again. The options at this point: additional antibiotics, possible treatment of the infection inside the tooth, or removing the tooth. In either case, if the infection doesn't improve dramatically within 48 hrs, more professional treatment is needed.

See your DDS: Dental infections are usually treated successfully with Amoxicillin if the patient is not allergic to that medication. However on occasion some dental infections are caused by bacteria that are resistant to Amoxicillin and require an alternative antibiotic. If you are not responding to the antibiotic you are taking call your dentist to re-evaluate your condition and treat accordingly.
