Bulging veins.: Varicose veins are due to leaking valves in the saphenous vein system. There is a strong hereditary component. Leaking (refluxing) valves can lead to varicose veins, leg and foot swelling. If you have varicose veins, then you should see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation including a venous ultrasound to help to make the diagnosis and determine treatment.
