What is rickets in breastfeeding?

Vitamin D supplement: Rickets is a disease, in this case, caused by vitamin d deficiency. Breastmilk is the perfect nutrition except for the amount of vitamin d. Supplementation of vitamin d is recommended until 4 mo of age, when other stores are depleted and needing a multivitamin with iron supplement. Rickets, itself, starts with boney pain. Infants are not able to tell you that they are in pain.

Vitamin D is low: Vitamin d doesn't pass to a significant extent through breast milk. Without vitamin supplementation, breast fed infants will become vitamin d deficient. When levels are low enough that bone cannot mineralize, rickets will develop.
