What is rickets disease?

A bone growth prob.: Rickets refers to deficient mineralization of the growth plates of bone. It can be predominantly related to either deficiency of calcium or phosphorus. It is commonly treated with adequate nutrition and vitamin d therapy.

Young children : Exclusively a metabolic bone disease of young children, rickets is the result of poor bone mineralization most often associated with nutritional vitamin d deficiency. This causes soft bones. Aside from nutritional deficiencies there are also known genetic diseases which may also cause rickets.

Rickets: Rickets is a metabolic bone disease of children which is usually caused by severe vitamin d deficiency, but can also have other causes, like calcium or phosphorus deficiencies in addition to other genetic causes. Exclusive to the young child, it is mostly the result of poor bone mineralization.
