Medical therapy: Most pts with hiatal hernias respond well to weight loss, dietary changes, ppi, s. Failure of therapy, presence of barrett's esophagitis, aspiration in lungs makes surgical therapy attractive. Seek GI advise.

Hiatal hernia: Most hiatal hernias are managed with diet and medications. Some are surgically repaired. The nuances of your case, your symptoms will be addressed by your doc. Okay to go in for evaluation. Unfortunately there is no easy cure.
