My son ruptured his l-5 disc. he had back pain/sciatica 4-5 months back. epidural reduced the pain for 2 weeks, then symptoms returned. does another epidural make sense?

I belive so?: Usually we do those in series of three injections and especially since you have improved little on the first on. Good luck.

Repeat epidural: A series of three separated by at least a couple weeks is standard of care.

Repeat ESI: If your son had relief for couple weeks with the first epidural steroid injection, i recommend to undergo a repeat epidural steroid injection for his sciatic pain. He might experience longer relief from the second injection. Good luck.

Yes: Yes the epidural injection helps most people with documented herniations that are the source of there sciatica type pain. That said the question is how long will you get relief for and there is no real good answer for that. Some people can get relief for months and others it can be days/weeks. We notice most people get relief for a longer time if at least 2 injections are planned.
