What is a neuroendocrine tumour?

Hormonal Tumors: There are some substances released in the body called hormones such as insulin, thyroid hormone etc and there are other substances called neurotransmitters such as Epinephrine which is released in the brain and in between the nerves. So, a tumor arising in any part of the body which releases these substances is called a neuroendocrine tumor.

Endocrine cancer: Neuroendocrine tumors are a heterogeneous group of tumors that originate from cells that have either neurologic and/or endocrine functions. They often secrete humoral substances unregulated and this can cause symptoms. For example Insulin secreting tumors can cause drops in blood glucose levels. These tumor are rare and can behave very differently depending on certain variables, like location.
