Why will some plastic surgeons continue to do procedures on patients who have clearly taken the procedures to a deformity level? is it ethical?

Certification Matter: Not all cosmetic procedures are performed by board certified plastic surgeons. The american board of plastic surgery selects its members on the basis, of ethics, safety, and appropriate management of complications among other things. Unfortunately the us government does not impose this standard on all physicians. So anyone with a medical license can do cosmetic procedures. Certification matters.

Deformity vs Desire: While i greatly respect the other surgeon's comments and finding a qualified surgeon is very important, as the old saying goes" "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" it is very difficult to draw the line because there is no dividing line between pretty and ugly. It is a spectrum. For example, with breast implants there is a range from small to large and deformity is difficult to define.

Deformity vs desired: The difference between a desired result and a deformity is a spectrum and the transition from one to another is not always an abrupt line or designation. Beauty is often said to be in the eye of the beholder and may be interpreted differently by different individuals. Results should be accomplished with an eye on minimizing complications while maximizing patient satisfaction by certified surgeons.

Contin/PlasticSurg: Truly ethical boarded Plastic Surgeons recognize the inherent risks in "going to far". But in the South Florida landscape there are so many Cosmetic Surgery Centers(non doctor/surgeon owned) where the surgeons do not have the final say vs private practice PS. Always best to see the private practicing Plastic Surgeon.
