Sometimes, ?: If you have typical gallbladder symptoms( eg, right upper abdominal pain after eating, nausea, vomiting) and also have a gallbladder polyp, that polyp may be the cause of your problem. Polyps are not dense therefore when seen on an ultrasound they do not shadow, however sometimes patients with polyps are found out to also have gallstones when removed. No one knows the causes of gb polyps.

Both are problems: Gallstones and polyps are both sign of gallbladder diesease and can both be the cause of pain. There are a few things to help tell them apart on ultrasound but they can be confused at times.
