How does polio relate to chemistry?

Relate?: Polio is a disease caused by a specific virus. During the acute illness the patient may be very ill with severe problems with body chemistry. They can be left with neurological problems, but no chemistry problems. The disease is not related to chemistry. It has now been almost completely eliminated due to the powerful vaccines.
