How does polio affect you mentally?

Why do you ask?: I'm fascinated by the fact that there are so many questions about polio, since it doesn't exist in the western hemisphere and is almost non-existent everywhere else (especially among people with access to the internet). Are there people out there who think they have it? Polio is classically associated with muscle weakness, not mental symptoms. However, if i had polio, i'd be bummed.
