A member asked:

If someone has had major depression entire life and it is not responsive to medication, could ending his marriage help or would this make it worse ?

Possibly...: Major depression can be part of major depressive (unipolar) disorder or a component of bipolar disorder. Both are complex conditions emerging from and/or sustained by (amongst other things) inter-related life circumstances, general medical or substance misuse, and individual belief systems. Ending a close relationship could have an unpredictable impact on emotion health. Consider seeking help.

Other treatments: Don't give up; get a second opinion about your treatment & diagnosis. Treatment resistant depression often simply means that the right therapies gave not been tried yet. Talk therapy, other medications, a new fda cleared noninvasive treatment called tms (transcranial magnetic stimulation), as well as ECT and other brain stimulation options are available.
