No.: No depression does not cause fibromyalgia. However, suffering from chronic pain can cause anxiety and depression which can make fibromyalgia symptoms worse.

I concur. It is also true that some folks who become depressed experience generalized body pain that most often is described as muscle pain and occasionally joint pain. Why that is is not really understood.

No: Fibromyalgia is a real entity causing muscle aches and fatigue. It is thought to be caused by abnormally low brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Low levels of these same chemicals are responsible for causing depression. Therefore the two are related but separate entities.

No: ? is fibromyalgia depression-caused. No! Multiple co-factors (childbirth, obesity, mechanical injury & hypermobility) conjoin as pelvic joint mechanical destabilizers; causing unstable body tower to tilt within gravitational field; inciting widespread repetitive stress soft tissue injuries as result of asymmetric biomechanical function; evoking symptom constellation labeled as "Fibromyalgia".

But, many studies have demonstrated that the chronic pain of fibromyalgia can CAUSE depression. Any chronic pain condition can lead to depression.

Fibromyalgia: Depression causes fibromyalgia. The key is an imballance in the area of the thalmus. This causes lack of pain filtering by thalmus an increased pain perception.

Real: Fibromyalgia is not depression. However living with chronic pain can cause feelings of anxiety and depression, which can worsen the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Dr. Betty Keller

Yes,: The frequency of clinical depression or anxiety is higher in fibromyalgia patients then the general population. This is also true of other conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Current research does not support depression as a cause of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is not depression. However, chronic pain can cause feelings of anxiety and depression, which can worsen fibromyalgia symptoms.

Fibromyalgia : Fibromyalgia , sometimes is not a simple disease to treat , a lot of excersice could help , the more exercise the better it works . 5 htp is an over the counter food product , not a medication , that like many claim results in many areas, depresion , fibromyalgia and many other . I am not an expert on these products and believe that fibromyalgia is a medical condition that requieres medical care. If none of the medication worked , increse exercise progresively until control , try yoga and thai chi.

What is timeline: Did everything develop together or separately. Ocd and fibro could certainly aggravate each other but Cymbalta (duloxetine) just happens to be a possible treatment for both but side effects like tremor and weakness sometimes occur. In this case i think working closely with both a pmr dr and a psychiatrist is warranted.
