I am 5.5 weeks pregnant and the ultrasound shows a yolk sac but no embryo. my blood work came back normal. should i be concerned?

Not yet.: Repeat ultrasound in a week or so should show and embryo, and possibly heart beat. However if you need answers more quickly, following the rise of HCG may provide further diagnostic certainty. (hcg should more or less double every 48hrs at this gestational age.).

Likely normal: At 5.5 weeks the ultrasound may not reveal the embryo just yet. Repeat ultrasound in 1 week and the embryo should be visualized then. Good luck.
