% fat is another: Bmi is useful for most of us, but is just weight/height(sq). If you are "stocky" or "muscular", you will have a higher bmi. An nfl running back may have a bmi of >30; but not fat! %body fat can be measured, but the normal range is not well standardized. Do you have abdominal obesity? Diabetes or heart disease in the familly? Rather than focus on weight, focus on fitness and overall health.

Several: Bmi is inaccurate if you're very muscular. An alternative would be waist to height ratio. This should be less than 0.5. Percentage body fat can also be measured. Also you can look at yourself in the mirror sideways. If your abdomen is sticking out beyond your chest you are either overweight or obese.
