Bilateral, recurrent: Patients with bilateral hernias (both left and right sides), and recurrent hernias are usually good candidates for laparoscopic hernia repair. However, only after a detailed consultation and physical examination can your surgeon determine whether laparoscopic hernia repair is right for you.

Ventral, Inguinal: There is no consensus in the surgical literature whether laparoscopic or open hernia repair is superior; however, most hernia surgeons tend to be divided into one camp or another. As a laparoscopic enthusiast, i find the benefit proportional to the size of the incision you are avoiding. Therefore, people with large ventral hernias are often excellent candidates for laparoscopic repairs.
