Is it normal to send a patient home the same day when they underwent a 4 hour laparoscopic appendectomy with two hernia repairs, one with incarcerated bowel, and adhesolysis? day 8 still in pain..

Post surgery pain: It is not normal to have so much pain. Call your doctor to report this and to be seen as a follow to surgery.

Post op: Yes. Of course. But, it is also likely you were sent home with post operation instructions that explained what to do if complications arise. Pain is a symptom the surgeon uses to know if there are complications. Please sign off of the internet and page the doctor.

Here are some...: It is hard to set a rigid rule for postoperative recovery due to wide variation in the extent of disease, surgery, pain tolerance, etc. For most of uneventful cases, patients would do well in 1-3 wks; for more extended cases, it may take weeks to months to restore to a comfortable level. In general, it's okay to use time & patience to wait out as long as slowly but surely getting better day by day
