Common, Get Treated!: Different types of eye infections, both viral and bacterial, can be very contagious and can spread between eyes. It's very important to get medication treatment for both eyes & also to use care and diligence for the best hygiene to minimize spread. For example, frequent hand washing, avoiding touching the face, use of a towel on your pillow, and disposing of tissue paper after each use can help.

? Viral infection: Your description sounds most like a severe viral infection but other etiologies are possible. See an eye doctor for further evaluation.
