Hydrate & check meds: Try to keep your body hydrated with extra water. You may be a mouth breather (especially if nose is clogged) and should use a nightly ointment like biotene moisturizer. Also some medications can make your mouth dry and cause your tongue to be raw so check with your physician. If you are brushing your tongue then be gentle. Certain foods like tropical fruit can cause this as well as nicotine.

Consult with: Your dentist to determine the cause of your tongue problem and administer the appropriate treatment. If he feels it needs further exploration he can refer you to an oral surgeon or physician. Hope this helps. In the interim avoid alcohol, tobacco products, acidic and spicy foods and liquids and use an oral care system like biotene. Hope this helps.

Find out why?: See your own dentist or an oral surgeon to find out why your tongue feels 'raw'. There are many possibilities and once you know the cause, it will dictate how best to prevent or treat it. Simply trying to make it feel better is not the best approach. Understanding why if feels that way will help not only make it feel better now but will likely prevent if from reoccurring.
