Rule out fungus: A lot of variables here. Have you recently been on an antibiotic? Have you recently had dental surgery? Any trauma to the oral cavity can bring about a fungal infection of the tongue. Fungus resides in the oral cavity normally and any alteration of the bacterial flora from medications or trauma can allow the fungus to become predominant and cause your symptoms.

Taste buds: Dry mouth is a leading cause of irrated tongue. A review of medications you are taken along with a full blood panel would be recommended to rule out systemic issues that could also manifest with these symptoms. A visit with your dentist and md would be recommended.
