One or more: Cholesteatomas are a serious problem that need surgical treatment. In children, unless the cholesteatoma is very small and easy to remove (more aren't), you can count on at least 2 surgeries: 1 to remove all visible cholesteatoma and another to check for recurrence and to repair the hearing bones if they were damaged by the cholesteatoma. Some people need many more surgeries to fix the problem.
