Yes: Cranberry extract doesn't actually treat an established infection like cystitis. Only an antibiotic like the Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) can cure the bacterial infection. But cranberry juice appears to prevent the bacteria that can cause cystitis from attaching to the walls of your bladder. Taking extract daily, like drinking cranberry juice , may help prevent frequent urinary tract infections.
