It is what it is...: There can be multiple causes for a "painful red blister rash"--just as there are many variations for the color "red". Rashes are most difficult to diagnose without actually being seen by your doctor. So, rather than to guess about the diagnosis, you should schedule an appointment with your dermatologist /family doctor. If this is MRSA (methicillin resistent staph aureus), it could prove dangerous.

You did both: A painful red blister rash is exactly as you describe. It could be from a burn or a virus like chickenpox which can also cause shingles later (the most common painful red blister rash). Some allergic reactions can also cause painful blister rashes as can local irritants. See your doctor to find out what it is.
