What can someone with bipolar do to cope without being on medication? what ways make it easier to control an episode?

Hard to cope: Bipolar disorder is neuropsychiatric disorder that is hard to treat without medications especially the full blown manic phase and deep depressive phase. One of the main reasons coping skills don't work is that reason and reality testing get compromised. Take your meds and learn to cope with illness, the earlier to come to terms the easier life will be. Talk to your psychiatrist/ therapist.

Agree w Dr. Younus: Is there a reason that you do not take medication for your bipolar Disorder? It is really essential for it's treatment & control. In the mean time stay clear of alcohol, caffeine and illicit drugs. Avoid sleep deprivation at all costs - aim for about 8 hours per night. If you are not receiving talking therapy - that is really essential. Talk about feelings & address problems. Don't avoid them. >
