How can i tell if counseling will be beneficial for improving my relationships?

Well . . .: One way to find out...Try it! some predictors of whether it will be beneficial are: 1) r u being told to get therapy or is it your idea? If your idea, chances are that it will help. 2) r your relationship probs severe & frequent? If so, u may have to work at therapy longer. 3) r other psych probs (personality disorder, substance abuse) present? If so, u may have to work harder at therapy.

It can help you: You can use counseling to improve your relationships if you improve your behavior as a result of what you learn. But, you can't control other people, so not every relationship will work out, regardless of how well you're behaving. It takes two to make a happy relationship. If there are some improvements that you can make on your end, counseling can be helpful with that.

TRY IT: Psychological counseling is all about improving interpersonal relationships; it's one of the main things dealt with every day in mental health clinics. All I can say is try it. Find a reputable psychotherapist nearby and make an appointment.

You will know: Experiencing an excellent counseling session (whether individual, family or couples counseling) is felt from within yourself. A good therapist will help you to take a look at yourself- your thoughts, beliefs, assumptions, behaviors, feelings and communication patterns. Through guided questions and summarizing, insights and awareness will be gained and emotional processing and changes can begin.
