Hard to say: There are many causes of pain in the foot without any apparent trauma. Without knowing more about your boy's health history and getting a look at his tootsie, i'd be misleading you with any specific answers. It's always safest and best to bring it in to a podiatrist, perhaps get an x-ray, and know for certain. Hope your boy feels better and good luck!

Many possibilities: Foot pain could be as a result of many different things. A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions, musculoskeletal, biomechanical abnormality, and due to neurologic conditions (neuropathy).
