Cutaneous drug rxn.: Cutaneous drug reactions can last 2-6 weeks. Oral steroids can help, but do have significant risks. Avoid all penicillin antibiotics and use caution with cephalosporins due to 10% cross reactivity.

Agree with Dr Rosch,: I will add: See an Allergist to see if other causes for rash can be ruled out. A rash known as erythema migrans could be described in this way, and could be a result of treating the infection, and not necessarily due to penicillin allergy. Conversely, delayed penicillin reactions can be life threatening upon reexposure, so knowing more about what happened is crucial for guiding future treatment
