A member asked:

What happens if you take antibiotics for a viral infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wont help, could hurt: Antibiotics are not effective against viruses so you will just be wasting money. You may also develop ill effects from the unnecessary medicine, such as diarrhea or fungal infection (oral thrush.) this practice also leads to " superinfections" such as MRSA and vre , as bacteria can develop tolerance to overused antibiotics.
