Intravenous: Parenteral nutrition is liquid nutrition that is given through an intravenous route. Protein, sugar and fat may be given in that fashion. A person can receive their entire daily required calorie intake through this method.

IV Nutrition: A special intravenous (IV) catheter is placed in a large vein in the chest or arm in patients who are unable to tolerate or digest oral feeding. A special mix of nutrients is delivered directly in to the blood stream bypassing the stomach and bowels.
