A wet, soggy foot: The term "trench" foot grew out of world war i, when troops who lived in wet trenches 24/7 would develop problems with wet, soggy feet, which never had a chance to dry out. This led to cracks in skin surfaces, which became infected and debilitated the soldiers as much as any wound would. The feet are very vulnerable to long periods of water immersion, due to shearing forces acting upon them.

What is Trench Foot: During war when soldiers would fight from trenches dug in the soil. When it would rain the trenches would hold some water-and so the feet would be constantly in water. This would cause the skin to wrinkle up and break down-with some form of infection-fungal or bacterial. Dr george tsatsos anklenfootcenters.Com.
