A lab test.: A wound culture is a lab test in which material from the wound is submitted to the microbiology laboratory to rule out the presence of bacterial organisms indicative of a wound infection. If any bacteria grow, they are identified and are tested to determine which antibiotics they are sensitive to. If no bacteria grow, the wound is considered to be uninfected.

Wound Culture: Experts agree that having bacteria in a wound is common. Bacteria can colonize a wound; or is bacterial growth can be so heavy that it would be considered an infection. Also, there is a specific technique that is considered a best practice for culturing: levine technique.
