There are many cause: For halitosis. Assuming you see the dentist twice a year for checkups and don't have any areas of decay and gum disease, and don't have any sinus / throat issues, it could possibly be resolved by altering your oral hygiene regimen. For my patients i recommend the braun oral b triumph, a waterpik wp100, tung brush and tung gel. Can also try a otc rinse called smart mouth. Good luck.

Gum: Gum is the best short tern solution. However, halitosis can indicate a problem. Periodontal disease, post nasal drip, GI problems, dry mouth (xerostomia) can cause bad breath.

Treat the cause: Halitosis has many deferent causes from the oral cavity and others. Oral cavity like, gingivitis , cavities, not brushing the tongue when brushing teeth. Others like sinuses infections, congestions , also the cause could be intestinal like gastric ulcers and stomach hyper acidity . If you work on the cause you'll control or eliminate halitosis
