When deciding on whether a woman should be on them during pregnancy, it has to be determined that the benefits of treating the depression outweigh potential risks. This decision should be individualized with your doctor.

Depends: The food and drug administration assigns risk category ratings for drugs in pregnancy. Category c drugs have been suggested to cause problems in the fetus and should be used with caution in pregnancy if absolutely needed. Category d medications have been proven to cause serious harm to fetus and should be avoided. All the current antidepressants are either category c or d.
