One's an infection: A stye is an infected eyelid gland. A chalazion is an inflammed eyelid gland. Styes are sore. Chalazia are not.

Merino mean gland: Both blocked glands chalazion subacute non tender and can become acutely inflamed. Hordoleum or sty occurs edge of lid and acutely tender.
