Fasting: Fasting for 24 hours once a week should not harm a healthy person. It shouldn't be practiced for more than once a week as a measure to lose weight. Many people find it difficult to do, have intense cravings for food and end up drinking tea or something else. I don't know many physicians who are fans of that practice.

Diet and exercise: Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. For nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/. Fasting one day a week is okay.
