I'm having trouble sleeping at night and i'm filled with high anxiety. i'm going to ask my psychiatrist for something that will help. oxazepam?

Treat the cause: Oxazepam a medium half life benzodiazepine is known for slow onset of action and is not good for sleep induction but rather for people who get up in middle of night. It is better to treat the cause for sleep trouble like anxiety and mood issues rather than symptom. Benzodiazepines are notoriously habit forming and addictive, it is better to stay away from. Try non habit forming med like silenor.

Sleep hygiene: Sleep medicine should be your last resort. Start with regular exercise, eating right, and no caffeine after lunch. Also-- go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. If you are still having trouble, then, if you have a psychiatrist, he or she will know what is the best option for you, especially if you are taking other medications.

Tailor-made treatmen: I think your own psychiatrist will counsel and discuss with you risks, benefits, side effects and alternative treatments. Good luck to you as your symptoms come under your control.
