so basically the only way to acquire hpv(genital warts) is coming in contact with someone who is already infected ?

Yes: Transmission is person to person, often acquired from a person who is not aware that they carry the virus.

Yes: Hpv is from sexual and or skin to skin contact as far as we know. However, since by age 25 up to 65% of men may already be positive and 35% of women, it is very difficult to pinpoint the source unless one person in a couple has never had any prior sexual contact. So, if you're looking to point the finger, its probably not worth your time.
