Shin splint.: This is a type of stress fracture and requires cutting back on the running until it heals.

Need rest/new shoes?: Need to take some rest from running on hills (both up and down,) and consider if your running/trail shoes are worn or not the best for your feet for this type of training. Possibly consider seeing an orthopedic Dr. and/or a physical therapist if this lingers.

Shin splint: Rest, ice, and see your doctor for a definitive diagnosis.
