Alter sleep level: Sleep talking is a 'parasomnia', along with abnormal movements, emotions (nightmares), dreams, etc. These occur during certain levels of sleep. Altering the level of sleep can occur with the use of an oral sleep device. However, the oral appliance is not intended to prevent speech...Just alter the level of consciousness associated with sleep.

Somniloquy: Sleep talking is usually a benign disorder of arousal (parasomnia). It usually occurs during non-rem sleep but may occur during rem sleep. In some cases, sleep talking may be secondary to other disorders such as rem related behavior disorders in which people act out their dreams.. Usually no treatment is needed but in some cases treatments to decrease arousals are helpful.
